SUE MAISANO: “How To Daydream and Achieve Your Goals”

“Logic will get you from A to B. Imagination will take you everywhere.”

~Albert Einstein

Daydreaming is like meditation or hypnosis except for that it is more effortless and natural. Done properly, daydreaming can be very effective in helping us achieve our goals.

Your mind and body already know how to get into the zone of daydreaming because you had been doing it unconsciously all the time.

Perhaps when you are driving, the lengthy, repetitive and boring activity sends your mind to a space of peacefulness, or what seems like to be void and silent. With this quieting of the mind, you wander away from daily mundane and goes on a mental exploration. In other words, you started to daydream.

Everybody daydreams, it is human nature.

I had a daydream 15 years ago.

How could I remember a random daydream that long ago you ask? Well, the daydream I had seemed too foolish to me at the time, so it stood out and stuck with me. I remember I had to stop myself on the tracks and put on a mental break to get myself out of the daydream.

As a frustrated Chinese college student who wanted to come to America, I had a lot of worries, one of which was relationship. I didn’t have any relationship problems per se actually, because I had no one to have a relationship with, aka I was a desperate single.

One day as I was randomly strolling the campus on the walkway my mind slips away. Admit this light, glowing and pleasant feeling, I thought maybe I would marry an American guy one day and have a bunch of cute mixes.

I was not sure if I initiated the thought or the thought found me. I felt that the latter was more appropriate. The thought was soft and gentle, and it brought pleasant sensations. I was free from everyday struggles for a few brief seconds while I was bathed in the daydream.

Then my logical thinking kicked in. My inner voice said this was not possible so stop thinking like this and fool yourself. I brought myself out of the daydream by deciding to focus on something more “practical”.

Nevertheless, that daydream was realized years later, against all odds.

Many inventions, scientific breakthroughs and writings were conceived in the daydream like state.

Einstein came up with the Special Theory of Relativity in daydreams. His saying that “Imagination is more important than knowledge” further testifies the importance of imagination and daydreaming.

Edison kept a small bed in his office where he daydreamed about his next inventions. If not for his immense creativity the world might still be a “dark” place.

And as your mind and body grow accustomed to a certain amount of sleep each night — six hours, seven, maybe the recommended eight — so can you train your waking mind to sleep creatively and work out the vividly imagined waking dreams which are successful works of fiction.”

You see, great minds recognize the importance of imagination and daydream to bring out creativity as well as accomplish personal goals.

How to use daydreaming to reach your goals?

Daydreaming is a state of being that we naturally go through each day. You can choose to purposefully daydream and raise your vibrations. When you daydream, you somewhat detach from the physical and access higher planes where energies can manifest into physical existence. You start to tap into the source where physical realities spring from. In other words, you become more creative.

Practicing entering the daydream space purposefully will help you draw closer what you desire. Here are a few steps to help you initiate and deepen your daydream abilities:

1. Find a quiet space.

Daydreaming is a type of “dream” so treat it like a dream. When you go to sleep each night, you put on your soft pajamas, retreat to your bed, cover yourself with warm blankets, and turn off the light. You close your eyes and side aside the day’s happenings.

You drop deeper and deeper into sleep where dreams may occur. You do it at each night at around the same time, same place, same procedures that it’s almost like a ritual. Similarly, with a daydream you need a quiet space, especially a quiet mental space where you can safely set aside the daily mundane.

Find a time and place where you won’t be constantly interrupted. Maybe take a short walk in the woods or on a trail. Maybe use the mental space in the soothing shower in the morning. Maybe it’s a place in your house where you feel comfortable for your daily daydreaming. Wouldn’t be a bad idea to daydream first when you go to bed each night.

2. Let go of logical thinking.

Sometimes you dream of your deceased relatives, but in that dream it may not occur to you that your relative had already passed. Sometimes in your dream you have a completely different identity than what you are in your waking hours. However, the dream self does not question its own validity.

It’s because your logical thinking is in suspension when you are in a dream. You are free from your logical restrictions. Your imagination grows wings when you dream. Similarly, when you daydream, suspend your logical thinking. Einstein said: “Logic will get you from A to B. Imagination will take you everywhere.”

If your logical thinking is interfering with your daydream you certainly are restricted and won’t be able to access the Universal energy with unlimited potential. In fact, you won’t even be able to daydream if you cannot let go of your logical thinking for even a brief moment.

Of course that is not to deny the power of your logical thinking at other times. What you need to practice on is to let go of logical thinking when you intent to do so. It’s a mental discipline to direct your will.

3. Let go of expectations.

After your daydream, carry out your daily activities as if nothing had happened. Don’t become obsessed with what you daydreamed about. When you do the actual daydreaming, you are delivering your message to the Universe. The Universe is always hearing and responding, and it initiates motion, which may not be visible on the physical plane, towards manifestations of your dream.

Let go of expectations is to allow it to happen and is perhaps the hardest part of bringing your daydream to reality. For everything we do we tend to cast our bet, our preferences of how things should go. If things go our way we are happy, if things are going against us we are worried. Our emotions are greatly controlled by what’s happening outside of us. We truly become a victim with no control.

We entangle ourselves in the process of creation and block the process of manifestation. What we are doing is to compare the outside happenings with what we hold in our expectations and we see this discrepancy. We then mess the process of creation with our negative emotions, further pushing our dream reality away from us.

It’s a downward spiral. With letting go of expectations we lose the comparison. Then the outside happenings become neither good nor bad because we don’t cast our bets, our preferences. This level of letting go allows the Universal energy to proceed naturally without any restrictions.

Then all of a sudden, when you are least expecting it your dream become a reality in a magical way! By then you might have already forgot that once you daydreamed about it. Such is the beauty of letting go of expectations.

Now you have it, three steps to bring your daydream to reality. Find a quiet space, let go of logical thinking, and let go of expectation. Which one do you think is the easiest? Which one do you think is the hardest part? Can you let go, even just a little bit? What are you daydreaming today?

MYSTICAL JOURNEY: “Be Soft with You”

Be soft with your spirit.  Be gentle with your essence.  BE authentic to your purpose and calling.  Rid yourself from the negative self-talk.  You become everything you say that you are or that you are not.  We are born every day, every minute, every second.  We are here on borrowed time.  Make it lovingly serene with your heart so that you can present your soul lovingly to another.  This struggle is all bullshit at the end of the day.  It doesn’t matter what you did or haven’t done.  This moment, wasted reading this, or contemplating what hasn’t been scratched off your To Do List, is all irrelevant.

Really… this is nonsense.  All the fake-ness of pretending and showing others a different person in order to fit in society.  I want to know YOU… the real you that cries in your car, gets giddy at the first dog you see in the street… the YOU that loves the moon and stars.

There are folks losing their jobs, their homes, and families.  There are others sitting alone in a hospital room watching a loved one fight for their lives.  While some others are in the petty claws of political and religious arguments on social media… life is happening out there.  Life is happening in here.  Life is a series of ongoing movements and motions reminding us that we get to pick the perception and reaction.

I don’t know why bad things happen.  I don’t know why anything happens.  I would like to believe it’s for the evolution of our higher self.  I would like to believe it’s part of a larger design.  Who truly knows at this point?  I have to be led by faith and that onset programming of a higher body of spirit guiding me.

What I do know is that we need one another.  We need a tribe.  We need love.  YES… lots of love and to turn on our hearts to accept and spread it.

We need to know that we aren’t alone in the path of obstacles and challenges.  We need to get out of our own head space and truly feel the vibration of another who is part of the overall conscious mass and start shifting towards changing the negatives to positives.

Hold a friend’s hand in need.  Hug your lover as if it was the last time.  Kiss those kids tightly.  Smile at a stranger.  Open doors for an elderly person.  Compliment a cashier.  Delete the toxic folks out of your life.  If they don’t raise you then they have taught you something.  It’s time to move on.  Use your energy wisely.  Just get out of your freaking head and lovingly give to another who needs to feel that the illusion of loneliness is not drowning their existence.  It matters.  It all matters to that one human who is struggling with life.

Stop the craziness of self doubt and anxiety because there is no way you leave this life alive.  STOP focusing on the lack of anything and start creating by living in joy.  So… live for yourself with honor, love, and compassion.  You don’t own this blue planet alone.  I am here.  You are here.  Let’s be here together in peace and harmony.  Let’s be raised by love and light.  We got this!

INSPIRATION FOR THE DAY ~ Moments with Millie: “Never Too Late”

I visited my elderly client who is under hospice care this morning.  She was asleep in a wheelchair in the hall of the facility.  I grabbed another wheelchair and sat in front of her.

She woke to my touch.  “Hello, darling!  How are you?”

Disoriented she looked at me and said that she was okay but didn’t like where she was at.  She went on to complain until I smiled and asked her a few questions.  She nodded then and agreed it wasn’t so bad.  Her dementia has progressed significantly the last month as she is transitioning.  She even said she was waiting for me but she has no clue who I am.

“Tell me something new, my love?”  I asked.

“I was at a concert yesterday.  The entire day.  They played black people music.”  Her blue eyes opened widely.

“What’s black people music?”  I asked waiting for some logical answer.  She has been a racist all of her life and extremely feisty.  She’s been verbal about it.  But today I saw change.

“You know… black music!”

“You mean, like soul music.… Music that gets into your soul and makes you move with the best beat?”

“I guess.  They asked me if I wanted to stay and I told them I was happy to.  I needed that music.”  In the midst of her delusion “they” are people of authority.  She continued explaining how the music made her feel.  She kept sighing and sharing the lightness in her body.

It was absolutely delightful to witness this.  Her story was fascinating.

I got off the wheelchair and dropped to my knees in front of her.  She touched my cheek.  I rubbed her hands.  I kissed her soft skin.

“Oh sweetheart, I feel that’s heaven.  Don’t you?  There must be soul music up there. I like to believe that there is the sound of black people jazzy music in the afterlife.  I want to believe there is some Louisiana symphony that makes you come alive….”

She interrupted me,  “Yessss!  I want that.  I want to dance to black people music in heaven.  Oh yesss!”  Her eyes tearing with such loving awareness.  It was pure yumminess.  And a gift of awareness for me.

Folks, it’s never too late to have a change of heart.  It’s never too late to change your ways.  It’s never too late to accept the world and rejoice in diversity.  Ohmygosh…. to witness this woman transform before her death and allow herself the acknowledgment of equality is huge.  She’s 85.  It’s never ever too late.

I walked out listening to the sounds of soul music from heaven.  She’s ready to go home.  I hear the trumpets playing….

PARAMAHANSA YOGANANDA: “The Cosmic Mother — One Aspect Of God”

In 1945, Paramhansa Yogananda wrote a booklet titled The Cosmic Mother: One Aspect of God. You can read a short excerpt below.

Power Of A Saint’s Devotion

I remember a saint I used to visit in India, The first time I went to see him, I had to wait quietly, for he said, “I am talking to Divine Mother.”  He was so great and yet so gentle and childlike!  His whole countenance shone with the love of the Divine Mother.  When I was in his presence those vibrations were overwhelming.  Whenever I saw him talking to Divine Mother I felt a thousand million times more Love in my heart than that which I felt for my earthly mother whom I dearly loved.  The emotion is indescribable!  I felt I could not exist another moment without my Divine Mother.

One day I went to this saint and said, “How is it you are communing with Divine Mother and I cannot?  Please ask Her if She loves me.  I must know.  I do not feel the love of Divine Mother now.  I must have Her.  I must know if She loves me!”

I kept on insisting for a long time, until finally the saint said, “All right, I will ask Her.”

And you know, that night I had a great experience.  I cherished it silently, within myself.  One or two days afterward I went to the saint, and again I saw those upturned eyes wandering in the jungles of the Infinite.  Such love you have never seen.  In most missionaries who go to India to “save the heathen” I do not see that love of God.  And I have seen many Hindu priests and teachers who did not reflect it.  But I have also found some great masters in whose eyes I saw God twinkling.  I used to bow down at the feet of this gracious saint because I knew Divine Mother was smiling in him.

So I asked, “What did Divine Mother say about me?”

He replied, “Naughty sir, naughty sir!”

“What did Divine Mother say?” I persisted.  “You promised me.  What did She say?”

Still he repeated only, “Naughty sir!”

I knew he could see through me and realized that I was hiding my thoughts in order to see if the experience I had had was real.  And still I went on, “You promised me!  Why is it you saints always mystify?”

Then he replied, “You come to test me?  That is not right.  Didn’t Divine Mother come to you the other night in the form of a most beautiful mother and say, ’Yogananda, I love you always?’”

I didn’t know what to do with myself.  I was so filled with the nectar of joy.  I had meditated all day long until I heard the answer, and when I went to this saint and heard those same words from him, what could I think?  Only one thing:  My Mother had truly responded!

When this saint used to talk he was just like a little child.  In the glittering of those eyes was the shining of Divine Mother’s eyes.

“Everyone that will seek Her will find Her,”

he said, “but one has to make the effort.”

Every time I think of him my whole soul becomes enraptured and my heart becomes so filled with love that I cannot speak.  He told me my Master would come later on.  Meanwhile, he gave me the devotional aspect of God — whereas my Master later gave me the wisdom aspect.  That combination provided what I needed — the complete Father-Mother manifestation of God.

CHRISTIAN COTRONEO: “Cat No One Would Touch Is So Grateful Someone Finally Hugged Him”

The Cat No One Dared To Touch.jpg

Everything about Valentino suggested people not give him the one thing he needed more than anything: human contact.

The cat’s hardened fur was riddled with grime.  He suffered from sarcoptic mange, a condition that’s highly contagious to both cats and humans.  His eyes were so caked and swollen, they were sealed shut.

And Elaine Seamans didn’t care.

While passing by his cage at the Baldwin Park Animal Shelter last week, she heard his faint cry for help.

“He reached out with his little paw and made the tiniest meow,”  Seamans tells The Dodo. “It was like he was screaming without verbalizing it:  ‘Please help me.’”

“There are times when it’s not an option to keep walking,” she adds. “You just have to stop.  This was one of those times.”

And she opted not to wear gloves, but to press Valentino directly to her heart.

“When I picked him up, he put his little head on my shoulder,” Seamans says. “That was it. I had to get him out.”

Then Seamans, founder of the At-Choo Foundation and a regular visitor at the shelter, let Valentino make the call for help himself.

While still holding the cat, she dialed her friend, Toby Wisneski, founder of Leave No Paws Behind.

“When I was talking to Elaine on the phone and she let me hear his little meow, I said, ‘That’s it.’” she tells The Dodo. “I could hear him. That sealed the deal.”

Wisneski picked up Valentino over the weekend, taking him directly to a veterinary clinic where — although he couldn’t see the staff — Valentino could feel his world changing for the better.

“He couldn’t move and he couldn’t see. But God love him, he’s a fighter.” Wisneski says. “Everybody just adores him and they’re very protective of him. His prognosis is excellent and once he gets through this, he’s going to have a long life ahead of him.”

“His heart is good.” she adds.

But then again, that’s one thing that a veterinarian didn’t need to confirm.

Seamans knew that as soon as she took every risk in the world to hold a mange-ridden cat close to her own heart — and let him know he wasn’t alone.

“He’s so loving,” Wisneski says. “You can tell he is very grateful. He will purr for them and try to rub up against the veterinary staff. He knows he is safe.”

When Valentino finally opens his eyes, it will be to a brand-new life. One with a family.

Maybe that could be you.
